Cecilia A. Schmiesing, age 98 of Osakis, formerly of Sauk Centre and Meire Grove, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 9, at St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Tom Becker officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Cecilia Anna Schmiesing was born Sept. 4, 1911, in Meire Grove, to Frank and Catherine (Niehaus) Schmiesing. She farmed in Getty Township, Stearns County, near Meire Grove all of her life. Cecilia moved to Sauk Centre in 1991 and then moved to the Community Memorial Home in Osakis in 1996. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove, St. Mary's Society, Poor Soul's Society, and the Holy Rosary Society. She loved sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and also loved to follow politics. Cecilia also enjoyed embroidery and needlework.
She is survived by her cousins and friends.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Catherine Schmiesing; brothers and sisters, Mary, Regina, Rose, Benedict, Ben and Joe Schmiesing. Serving as casket bearers were Mark Schmiesing, Gerald Meyer, Dan Meyer, Anthony Niehaus Jr., Bob Niehaus and Tom Wiechmann. Cross bearer was Timothy Comfort and scripture bearer was Stephanie Comfort. Honorary bearers were members of the Holy Name Society, Poor Soul's Society and Holy Rosary Society. Gift bearers were Bob Schmiesing and Marge Schmiesing. Serving as lector was Julie Comfort and petitions were read by Jan Niehaus. Eucharistic minister was Dan Meyer. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
