Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 27, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle for Vernon F. Ostendorf, 73 of Long Prairie who died Thursday at Long Prairie Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Mark Willenbring will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 8 AM on Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle. Arrangements are being made by Stein-Dingmann Funeral Home in Long Prairie.
Vernon F. Ostendorf was born on June 18, 1934 in Ward Springs, Minnesota to Bernard & Mathilda (Woeste) Ostendorf. He attended school in Burtrum, MN. He worked at Kraft in Melrose. Vern served in the U.S. Army from 1954 -1956. He later worked as a master mechanic for Peter Kwitt in Minot, North Dakota. In 1964, he purchased Grey Eagle Motors which he owned & operated until 1976. On June 6, 1966 he married Donna Lawson in Grey Eagle, Minnesota. He worked at the Todd County Hwy. Dept. as a Maintenance Supervisor from 1979 until his retirement in 1996. Vernon served as a Todd County Commissioner for two terms. He was a member of VFW Post #1140 and American Legion #12 of Long Prairie. He enjoyed working on cars.
He is survived by his wife Donna of Long Prairie; brothers & sisters, Rita (Sid) Lyon of Grey Eagle, Viola Berscheid of Melrose, Leander Ostendorf of Tempe, AZ, Edwin (Gladys) Ostendorf of Fayetteville, NC., Joanne (Richard) Heffron of Grey Eagle, William (Veeta) Ostendorf of Citrus Heights, CA., and Lorraine (Jerry) Folta of Grey Eagle; brother-in-law, Orville Bullard of Tacoma, WA; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben & Mathilda; brothers, Melvin, Wilfred, Gilbert, LeRoy, and Cyril; sisters, Irene Bullard and Anna Mae Ostendorf.
