Roman C. Kettler, age 76, of Chaska, formerly of Minnetonka and Sauk Centre, Minnesota died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Auburn Manor Nursing Home, Chaska. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, May 29 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Deephaven, with Father Martin Shallbetter officiating. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery, Shorewood, Minnesota.
Roman C. Kettler was born March 14, 1928 in Melrose, Minn., to Frank and Agnes (Schiemsing) Kettler. He was one of 10 children. Roman was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Melrose and was a graduate of Sauk Centre High School. On Sept. 27, 1952 Roman married Patricia Ronney at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Osakis, Minn. They had eight children. Roman was a veteran in the United States Navy, and was a member of the Local #49 Operating Engineers Union, the Hopkins American Legion and V.F.W. and the Sauk Centre American Legion and V.F.W. while living in Sauk Centre. Roman enjoyed repairing small engines, woodworking and fishing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Roman was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George and brother-in-law, Dick Swanson.
Survivors include his wife, Pat of Chaska, sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Jane of Singapore, Tom and Connie of Victoria, Jerry and Tracie of Annandale, Jack and Lana of Forest Lake; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Johnson of Excelsior, Joni and Jim Strehlke of New Germany, Anne and Deron Abblett of Watertown, Sandi and Mark Johnson of Prior Lake, 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leander (Julianna), Herb (Rose Marie), Elmer (Erma), (Jeanette); Richard (Evelyn), Donald (Mary Lou), Conrad (Lillian "Pudge"), Fran and Marlene; sister, Rose Mary Swanson and many relatives and friends.
Casketbearers were Tony Hesse, Neil Kettler, Randy Kosnopfal, Jay Kettler, Kenny Kettler, John Ronney, Aleks Strehlke and Erich Strehlke. Arrangements were made with the Bertas Funeral Home of Chaska, Minn.
