Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Mary Beste, 80, who died Saturday at her home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Freeport. Christian Mothers, Goldenaires Senior Citizens and Daughters of Isabella will pray at 4 p.m. today at the church in Freeport, followed by parish prayers at 8. Arrangements were made by Patton-Schad Funeral Service, Melrose.
Mary Beste was born in Freeport to Henry and Regina (Haselkamp) Beste. She graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1940 with a degree in education. She taught elementary school at District 43 in rural Freeport, St. Joseph, New Ulm, Graceville, and St. Paul's School in St. Cloud. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, Minnesota Senior Federation, Eucharistic minister and lector at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, religion teacher, coordinator of the Freeport Dining Site, president of the Goldenaires Senior Citizens, secretary of the Freeport Planning Commission, and past member of the advisory committee of School District 740 community education.
Survivors include her brother and sister, Al of Freeport and Clara Klobe of Glencoe.
She also leaves behind her cousin, Bill Haselkamp of St. Cloud.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Francis, Ulric, Emmaline, Regina, Eleanor and Julie.
