Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville, MN for Leonard John Horn, age 89 of Paynesville who died Wednesday at the Melrose Hospital in Melrose, MN. The Reverend Richard Leisen will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Louis Parish Cemetery in Paynesville. Visitation will be (TODAY) Friday, January 16, 2004 from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville, MN, and on Saturday from 12 Noon to 1:00 P.M. at St. Louis Catholic Church. St. Louis Parish Prayers will be at 8:00 P.M. and Knights of Columbus Council 3820 prayers will be at 8:30 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Council of Sauk Centre will stand honor guard at the funeral home on Friday evening.

Leonard was born on December 18, 1914 at Lake Henry, MN, the son of John and Catherine (Zirbes) Horn. He married Catherine Meyer on June 27, 1939. Six children were born to this union. During World War II, Leonard served his country helping build the Alaskan Highway. Mr. Horn was an auto-mechanic for many years retiring in 1980. After his wife Catherine died on March 7, 1977, Leonard continued to live in Paynesville, and later married Louise Sampson on June 30, 1979. Louise died on April 28, 2003.
Mr. Horn was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Third Degree Knight of Columbus Council 3820 of Paynesville, and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Council of Sauk Centre. Leonard served as the financial secretary of Knights of Columbus Council 3820 for 47 years, and received an Apostolic Blessing on September 9, 2001 from Pope John Paul II for his service.

He is survived by his children, Richard (Mary) Horn and Allen (Laura) Horn of Melrose, MN, Elizabeth (Melvin) Rothstein of St. Cloud, Steven (Geri) Horn of Montevideo, MN, and Nancy (Mike) Backstrom of St. Cloud, 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, one sister Marie Dinndorf of Albany, MN, his step-children Larry Sampson of Paynesville, Denyse (Bill) Trebs of Bigfork, Robert (Carol) Sampson of Spicer, William (Nancy) Sampson of Paynesville, and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives Catherine and Louise, Leonard was preceded in death by one son Ralph, one great-grandson Jackson, and two brothers Zeno and Edward. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the CentraCare Foundation. Arrangements are with the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
