Alice L. Uphoff, age 72 of Melrose, formerly of New Munich, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Rev. Julius Beckermann, OSB, Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB and Rev. Ken Thielman will concelebrate with interment following in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Anne's Christian Mothers will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Melrose.
Alice Uphoff was born June 17, 1932 in New Munich, Minnesota to Theodore and Olivia (Roering) Thielen. On Oct. 23, 1954 she married Alfred Uphoff in New Munich. She was a long-time resident of New Munich, where she was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Anne's Christian Mothers. For the past five months she had resided at Park View Center in Melrose, where she had formerly been employed. Alice was an excellent cook and enjoyed playing cards, traveling to Arizona in the winter and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include five children, Gary (Sharon) Uphoff and Pat (Jeff) Elfering, all of Melrose, Steve (Judy) Uphoff of New Munich, Jean (Jeff) Welle of Ramsey and Gerlyn "Geri" Uphoff of Brooklyn Park; 13 grandchildren; sisters and brother, Celeste "Les" Schulzetenberg of Melrose, Lenore May of Cold Spring and Ervin (Gloria "Ann") Thielen of New Munich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred Uphoff on Dec. 23, 1996; great grandson, Mason Vogel; sisters, Lucille Woods and Ethel Felling.
Serving as casket bearers will be Josh, Skyler, Chris, Genna and Nicole Uphoff, Nick Welle, Erik Elfering and Steve Vogel. Cross bearer will be Brady Welle, scripture bearer will be Natasha Vogel, lectors will be Hannah Welle and Shelby Uphoff and gift bearers will be Mariah Welle and Taylor Uphoff.
