Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Alexius Catholic Church, West Union, for Anthony G. Marthaler, 70, who died Sunday at Northwest Texas Hospital, Amarillo, Texas, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 7902 of Osakis and Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Sauk Centre. United Veterans of Sauk Centre will pray at 7 tonight at the funeral home in Sauk Centre followed by parish prayers at 8 and St. Michael's Council 3186 Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph's Society and Daughters of Isabella at 8:30.Anthony Marthaler was born in West Union to Albert and Antoinette (Deters) Marthaler.

He married Lorraine C. Klaphake on Sept. 3, 1955, in St. John's Catholic Church, Meire Grove. He farmed in West Union Township, Todd County, all his life. He in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.He was a member and former trustee of St. Alexius Catholic Church; member of St. Joseph's Society of West Union and American Legion Post 67 in Sauk Centre; life member and past commander of VFW Post 7902 in Osakis. He also was a member of St. Michael's Council 3186 Knights of Columbus; sexton of St. Alexius Cemetery; former clerk of School District 2041; and former director of West Union Creamery Board.

Survivors include his wife; sons and daughter, Gregory of Osakis, Kenneth A. of Sauk Centre, and Debra White of St Louis Park; sisters and brothers, Sister M. Andre, OSB of St. Joseph, Sister M. Peter, OSC of Sauk Rapids, Sister M. Germana, OSB of East Grand Forks, Joan Pfannenstein of St. Louis Park, Imelda McCann of Clear Lake, Albert of Hewitt, Lawrence of Sauk Centre, and the Rev. Andrew of Elbow Lake; and five grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jean Anne, on June 30, 1980; and sister and brother, Annella Hougnon and Paul. Memorials are preferred.
