Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church for Erwin A. Meyer, 80, who died Saturday at St. Cloud Hospital.Burial will be in the parish cemetery.Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. today and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home. St. Joseph's Society will pray at 7 tonight at the funeral home in Melrose followed by parish prayers at 8.
Erwin Meyer was born in Meire Grove to Clemens and Mary (Imdieke) Meyer. He married Verona Primus on June 30, 1941, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Melrose. The couple had lived in Meire Grove ever since. He worked for 32 years at Empire Memorials, Melrose, until retiring in 1984. He also worked for several years at DB's Bar and Grill in Meire Grove. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, St. Joseph Society, St. John's parish choir, Green Grove Rod and Gun Club and Meire Grove Athletic Club. He also played tuba for Melrose Clown Band and Melrose City Band.
Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters, Dennis of Chaska, Merle of Danbury, Wis., Chuck of Weatherford, Texas, Terry of Circle Pines, Alain Kolb of Milaca, Joyce Schwinghammer of Belgrade, and Deb Klaphake of Melrose; sister, Bertha Vornbrock of Meire Grove; 25 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by son and daughter, Joseph and Marie; brothers and sisters, John, Al, Eddie, Martin, Norbert, Emily Vornbrock, Clara Worms and Alvina Herges; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
