Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose for Eleanor Meyer, who died Tuesday, December 30 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Rev. Vincent Lieser will officiate with Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. TODAY and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Eleanor Meyer (Uhlenkott) was born on December 21, 1897 in Freeport to George and Mary (Metzger) Uhlenkott. She was united in marriage to John Meyer on July 12, 1921, in Freeport. Eleanor is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Legion Auxiliary and a past member of the Melrose Study Club. Eleanor enjoyed crocheting and teaching others to crochet.
Survivors include her children, Mary Hoffman of Annapolis, Md., Donald (Gerry) Meyer of Melrose, William (Callista) Meyer of Melrose, John (Jo Ann) Meyer of Sauk Centre, Janet (Thomas) Smith of Falls Church, Va., Elizabeth Ann Meyer of Bethesda, Md., Mark (Barbara) Meyer of Melrose, and James (Karen) Meyer of Chanhassen; 30 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Meyer; and brothers and sisters, Herman Uhlenkott, Simon Uhlenkott, and William Uhlenkott, Beatta Degnan, Barbara Stommes, Mamie Bauer, Anna Harren, Rose Stuntebeck, and Minnie Mahoney.
