Rita Sauer, age 76, of Staples, died Friday evening at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 6th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Peter Kirchner officiating. Burial will follow in the Motley Public Cemetery. Relatives will receive friends on Monday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. The Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers.
Rita Frances Sauer was born on September 18, 1926 to John and Clara (Kloeppner) Storkamp in St. Cloud. Together with her family, they moved to Sauk Rapids in 1937. Rita attended and graduated from St. Cloud Tech and went on the University of Minnesota for a year. On July 1, 1948, she married Lawrence Kampa at Sacred Heart Church in St. Cloud. In 1965, they moved to Motley and owned Four Pines Resort and later Kampa's Island View Resort. Lawrence Kampa died in January of 1993.
Rita was a 35 year member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Motley and was active in its ladies groups. On January 6, 1996 she married Lawrence Sauer in St. Augustine's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Together they made their home in Staples and were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Rita is survived by her husband, Lawrence Sauer; 3 sons, Mike (Mary) Kampa of Casper, Wyo., Charles (Amy) Kampa of Fergus Falls, and Jeffery (Roxane) Kampa of Little Falls; 2 daughters, Jackie Williams of Alaska and Carol (David) Stowell of Silverton, Oregon; a sister, Mary Lou Keuchle of Watkins; a brother, Harold (Teresa) Storkamp of Sauk Rapids; 15 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, and 10 stepchildren and their families.
