The Mass of Christian burial, celebrating the life of Elmer E. Schmidt, age 82 of Holdingford, will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 27, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Holdingford. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Elmer died Saturday at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. There will be a visitation from 4-8:30 PM Monday (TODAY) and again after 9:30 AM Tuesday at the Miller-Carlin-Brenny Funeral Home in Holdingford. The St. Jospeh Society will pray at 6:00 PM with St. Mary's Parish Prayers at 7:00 PM, followed by the Holdingford Legion and the Holdingford VFW praying at 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home in Holdingford.
Elmer was born May 25, 1924 in Elrosa to Albert and Clara (Kleinschmidt) Schmidt. He entered the U.S. Army and then the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII. He married Armella Worms on July 21, 1947 in Greenwald. Elmer went to Telegraphy School in Minneapolis and he worked for the Soo Line Railroad as a Depot agent for 38 years, retiring in 1986. In the spring of 2000, he received his diploma from the Holdingford High School. Elmer is a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Holdingford where he was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and a St. Josephs Society member. He was also a member of the Holdingford American Legion, and the Holdingford VFW. He is a past member of the Holdingford School Board, the Holdingford Village Council and he taught gun safety for many years.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Armella Schmidt, Holdingford; sons; Ronald (Irene) Schmidt, Rice; Richard (Barb) Schmidt, Onamia; Robert (Gerrie) Schmidt, Avon; Randal Schmidt, Holdingford, his daughter, Renee Raun, Chanhassen;.brothers, Dan Schmidt, Elrosa; Gordon (Pauline) Schmidt, Villard; Herbert (Lorraine) Schmidt, St. Cloud; sister, Monica Klemz, Shoreview, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Vernon Schmidt, and his granddaughter, Amanda Schmidt.
