Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald for Leona Walz who died Sunday, March 13 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 7 p.m. immediately followed by parish prayers.
Leona Ann Marie Walz was born October 15, 1921 in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County on her parent's farm. She was the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Meyer) Worms. She was united in marriage on August 24, 1943 to Walter "Buddy" Walz. They lived on their farm until 1996 when they retired from farming and moved to Greenwald where they currently resided. Leona loved making quilts, gardening and working in her many flower beds. She enjoyed baking bread, cookies and various desserts. She embroidered many dish towels and enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leona was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her husband, Walter "Buddy" Walz of Greenwald; children, Marilyn Lieser (Eldred) of Regal, Clarine Beier of Mora, David Walz of Greenwald, Anita Burg (Steve) of St. Martin and Deb Keller (Pat) of Greenwald; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and sisters, Armella Schmidt (Elmer) of Holdingford, Aurelia Rasinski of Minnetonka, Erma Schultz (Rich) of Clarkston, WA, Rita Beloit (Glenn) of Spokane, WA, and Loretta Mosman (Gerald) of Walla Walla, WA. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; son, Daniel; and sister, Irene Walz.
