Carol Hildegard Welle
(October 15, 1939 - February 20, 2010)
Carol H. Pelkey, age 70 of Sauk Centre, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at her home in Sauk Centre, when her seven-month battle with cancer ended. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating and Rev. James Statz and Deacon Lawrence Kaas concelebrating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre.
Carol H. Pelkey was born on Oct. 15, 1939, in Melrose to Henry and Erma (Meyer) Welle. She married Jerome A. Pelkey on Sept. 17, 1960, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill. Carol and Jerome raised a family of five children in Sauk Centre and resided in their home together on Pine Street for nearly 48 years. For seventeen years, Carol provided daycare out of her home and then was employed by the Sauk Centre Public Schools as an aide in the computer room for nineteen years. Her garden, her children, and her grandchildren brought so much pride to her over the years. Her passions included walking, hosting dinner parties, sewing and most of all, cooking.
Carol was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, the church choir, Christian Mothers, Catholic Aid, Red Hat Club, Elrosa and Sauk Centre Senior Citizens, American Legion Post 67 Auxiliary, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 285 Auxiliary, birthday clubs and card clubs.
Her valiant effort to fight is a sign of what a strong, vivacious woman she was, and she will be missed by her entire family including her husband, Jerome Pelkey of Sauk Centre; children, Steve (Laurie) Pelkey of Brainerd, Karen (Paul) Christian of Apple Valley, Kevin (Michelle) Pelkey of Brainerd, Julie (Greg) Sullivan of Owatonna, and Lori (Robin) Wooley of Orono; brothers and sisters, Al (Lil) Welle, Vernon (Genny) Welle, David (Marilyn) Welle, Hank (Ann) Welle, Marlene (Gerald) Leiser, Alice (Herb) Peters, JoAnn (Art) Middendorf; grandchildren, Michelle, Holly, Grant, Adam, Ariana, Brendan, Cassidy, Ty, Jay, Josie, Brooke, Brady and Cooper; and many, many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Erma Welle, brother James and brother Charles. Serving as casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Ty Sullivan, Grant Christian, Adam Pelkey, Brendan Pelkey, Ariana Pelkey and Holly Christian. Cross bearer will be her granddaughter, Michelle Christian and scripture bearer will be her grandson, Jay Sullivan. Serving as gift bearers will be her granddaughters, Cassidy Pelkey, Josie Sullivan, and Brooke Wooley. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
