Services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church for Marcellus W. 'Mark' Evans, 74, who died Monday at St. Cloud Hospital as a result of heart failure.Entombment will be in the Assumption Mausoleum.Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:30 a.m. until time of services Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home. Waite Park American Legion Post 428 will meet 6 p.m. Wednesday, followed by the Fraternal Order of Eagles 622 at 6:30 and St. Peter's parish prayers at 7 at the funeral home.
Marcellus Evans was born in Albany to John and Louise (Klassen) Evans. He was in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He married Doris T. Schwalbe on Sept. 24, 1951, in St. Anna. He worked for Donovan Construction before being employed as a lineman for Northern States Power for 29 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622, where he served in all offices including the presidency for two terms and was also active in membership recruitment, Moose Lodge 1400; AmVets; life member of Waite Park American Legion Post 428; IEBW 160; Minnesota Sheriffs Association; and the Minnesota Association of Counselors on Alcoholism.
Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons, LeeAnn of Monterey, Calif., Carolene Younkin of Niwot, Colo., Charolette Barthelemy of St. Cloud, Ruth Kosel of Louisville, Colo., Roger of Santa Maria, Calif., Delroy of Denver and Gerrett of Pine Island; 11 grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Alcuin of St. Cloud, Leander of San Francisco and Viola Baggenstoss of Albany. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry, Stanley, Sylvester and Ronald; and granddaughter, Genna.
