Genevieve (Jessie Walz) Borgerding age 88 of Elrosa, died Wednesday March 9, 2005, at the Belgrade Nursing Home. The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 12 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. Interment was held in the parish cemetery.
Genevieve Bertha Hopfer was born August 9, 1916, in Mt. Angel, Ore. She was the daughter of John and Agnes (Gruber) Hopfer. Genevieve moved with her family to Webster, S.D. at the age of one and lived there until 1926 when she came to Belgrade. On June 4, 1935, she was married to Frank Walz in Elrosa. Following their marriage they farmed in the Elrosa area. In 1968 they moved into Elrosa. Frank died Nov. 15, 1973. Genevieve worked two years at Fingerhut in Melrose and for 15 years she worked as a cook at the Belgrade Elrosa High School, retiring at the age of 70. On Nov. 23, 1974, she was married to Ambrose Borgerding in Elrosa. He died May 8, 2001. Genevieve was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she belonged to the Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the Elrosa Senior Citizens.
Genevieve is survived by her children, Robert (Irene) Walz of Elrosa, Roman (Judy) Walz of Belgrade, Duane (Dellie) Walz of Foley, Diane (Lionel) Stavos of Avon, Kenneth (Betty) Walz of Avon, Mary Kay (Pete) Mohs of Belgrade; 11 step-children, David, Irene, Evelyn, Susan, Kathy, Noreen, Marcie, Karen, Joe, Marvin, and Doris; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; brothers, Leonard, Edward, Joseph; and sisters, Gertrude, Anna, and Bernice.
