Oct 1, 2003 Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose for Sylvester P. Thelen, 76, who died Oct. 1 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 9 pm and Monday from 8 to 11 am at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 6:30 pm followed by Melrose Veterans Honor Guard at 7 pm and Knights of Columbus at 8:30 pm.
Sylvester Thelen was born on January 12, 1927 in Melrose, Minnesota to John and Mary (Goihl) Thelen. He attended Melrose High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He lived in Melrose all his life and worked on construction doing mainly masonry work. He loved to hunt, fish, and watch the Twins and local sports, and gardening.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose, Knights of Columbus Council #1633 and the American Legion Post 101.
Sylvester is survived by brothers, Al (Jeanette), Clarence, Melvin and Herb Thelen (Della) of Melrose. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister, Edmund Thelen and Mathilda Poepping. Memorials are preferred.
