Elizabeth L. "Betty" Spaeth, age 66, of Melrose died after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at the Melrose Area Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 25 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Betty Spaeth was born July 26, 1939, in New Munich, Minnesota to Edward and Susan (Mayers) Olmscheid. She married Allen A. Spaeth on June 13, 1957, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Melrose. She was employed by Jennie-O Foods for 26 years. Betty enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino and taking care of her home and lawn. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Melrose and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her children, Mark Spaeth and his wife, Denise of Big Spring, TX, Tom Spaeth of Melrose, Brenda Zeis and her husband, Jeff of Oak Grove, John Spaeth of Kasson, Cindy Lenarz and her husband, Todd of Milaca and Chris Spaeth of Little Canada; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Leo Olmscheid and his wife, Viola of New Munich, Jerome Olmscheid and his wife, Lorraine of Lake Henry, LeRoy Olmscheid and his wife, Phyllis of St. Cloud, Dorothy Rademacher and her husband, Ralph of New Munich and Dorien Revermann of New Munich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen on Feb. 13, 1998; grandson, Lee Spaeth; sisters, Donna Mae Hiltner and Marian Van Drehle. Serving as casket bearers were Jason Spaeth, Eric Spaeth, Aaron Spaeth, Jared Spaeth, Justin Zeis and Adam Zeis. Serving as cross bearer was Nicki Spaeth and scripture bearer was Judy Spaeth. Honorary bearers werethe card group. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Service of Melrose.
