The mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Bernard V. Frieler, age 78 of Albany, formerly of Upsala, will be 1:00 PM Monday, July 11 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Bernard died Thursday at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany surrounded by his loving family. There will be a visitation from 4-9:00 PM Sunday at the Miller- Carlin-Brenny Funeral Home in Albany and again after 12:00 Noon Monday at the church in Upsala. St. Mary's parish prayers will be 7:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home in Albany.
Bernard was born March 27, 1927 in New Munich to Joseph and Rose (Nathe) Frieler. He grew up in New Munich and married Alma Dickhaus on June 20, 1950 in Melrose. The couple lived in New Munich for a couple of years and then they bought a farm in Upsala where they farmed for many years. Along with farming, Bernard also worked for Franklin Manufacturing for many years and then he went into the restaurant business; owning the Uptown Caf and then the Done Blow Caf in Upsala, the Corner Caf in Swanville and the Rainbow Caf in Holdingford. He also owned Ben's Bargin Shop in Holdingford. Bernard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Alma in Albany; his children; Margie (Roland) Meyer, Mansfield, TX; Fred Frieler, Swanville; Mark Frieler, Little Falls; Donald (Anita) Frieler, Swanville; Nancy (Lonnie) Ritter, Grey Eagle; Denise (Larry) Plumski, Little Falls, Neil (Peggy) Frieler, Elmdale and Trudy (Byron) Westrich, Burtrum. He is also survived by a sister, Genrose (Elmer) Utsch, Albany and a brother, Martin (Delores) Frieler, New Munich; 23 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edwin Frieler, John Frieler, Paul Frieler and Clarence Frieler, sisters Marie Ness and Luella Richter, infant children Pamela and David and an infant grandson, Luke Frieler.
