Ransom L. Butkowski, age 17, the son of Les & DeLores Butkowski of Osakis died unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, March 29, 2006 in a vehicle accident in rural Melrose, MN.
Ransom (a biblical name meaning 'redeemer') Leslie Butkowski was born on January 24, 1989 in Alexandria, MN to Leslie & DeLores (Jenkins) Butkowski. He attended elementary school in Melrose and moved to Osakis in 2001 when his parents purchased the Tip Top Dairy Bar. He was an eleventh grade student at Osakis High School. Ransom was active in several high school sports. He was a member of the OHS football team, the track team, golf and baseball teams. He was active with the Boy Scouts and was working toward his Eagle Scout award. He also worked at the SAVE Superstore grocery in Alexandria and helped his parents at the dairy bar. Some of Ransom's favorite past times included being outdoors. He loved to play sports, go hunting and fishing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling. He liked to play video games and text message his friends. Listening to music and driving his car were other things that made him happy. Ransom was a kind and loving son, brother, grandson and student who will be dearly missed by everyone who's lives he touched.
Ransom is survived by his parents, Les & DeLores of Osakis; his sister, Chelsy; his paternal grandparents, Roger & Beverly Butkowski of St. Rose; maternal grandparents, Wally Jenkins of Melrose and Cecelia (Elroy) Tengwall of Glenwood; many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. A Mass of Resurrection will be held for Ransom on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with Rev. Roger Klassen officiating. A eulogy will be given by Rev. Ron Calvert. Interment will be at the Calvary cemetery in Osakis. Honorary pallbearers were the members and coaches of the Osakis Football team, his classmates from the OHS Class of 2007, the Faculty & Staff at OHS and the Osakis Boy Scout Troop #426. Active pallbearers were Kris Peterson, Arnie Olson, Matt Barsness, Shawn Maher, Logan Herzog, Billy Shrode, Mike Butkowski, Miles Vogel, Nick & Nate Watts. Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
