Alternate Birth

His obituary gives his age as 74 on 2 Jan 1940, but lists a "daughter" Mrs. Frank Smith of East Mill St. in Pittsfield as a survivor. The only Frank Smith on East Mill St. in the 1940 Census is a Frank and Bessie Smith. I found them in the 1830 Census living in Lee, and a Frederick Oviatt is living with them and is listed as the Father-In-Law of Frank Smith (the head). Frederick is listed as divorced. Further research shows that David married a Julia Ann Oviatt maiden name Briggs on 12 May 1934 in Brewster, NY. The birth date on the licence for David is 30 Dec 1874.

Death

Obituary, Berkshire Gleaner, 5 Jan 1940. An entry in the same paper 3 Jan 1941 and events in the preceeding year says 1 Jan.
