Zilphy's Legacy of Descendants

Zilphy Claud is the beginning of the Claud family. She was born about 1820, and died some time after 1880. However, new information has come forth from the Virginia Death Registry which can be viewed at FamilySearch or Brantley Association. This new information references a death date of 1893, and reflects Zilphy's age at 81 at the time. Zilphy had at least seven (7) children and possibly more. It is not known if these seven were full sisters and brothers or half-sisters and half-brothers. Records regarding slaves in Southampton County are very sketch, and it is likely that this information will never be known.

What is known, is that Mason and Sarah Claud were slaves of Mr. Phillip I. (J) Claud. The names of two (2) more of Phillip Claud's slaves are known... Lucy and Ivey; they may or may not be members of this family. All efforts to discover more of these two have produced no more information.

The children of Zilphy Claud:
1. Mason
2. Sarah
3. Lydia
4. Elizabeth (Bettie)
5. George Washington
6. Rosa
7. Carter
