Individual Details
Elisabeth May HAYS
(7 Oct 1911 - 6 Dec 1988)
Elisabeth worked for the Air Force in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Note from Trish Labout Aug 2002 -
"My grandmother's marriage was to Cecil Mathis, no children, and did result in divorce. She told me once he used her brand new Packard to rustle calves! I don't blame her for divorcing him! She returned to college in Bowling Green and continued her career as a professional soprano singer. Somewhere we have a recording of her singing. She could break glasses with her voice. Her second marriage was to my grandfather, Oscar Austin Hammett, and resulted in my mom. After my grandfather died she never sang again. She wore black for at least seven years after his death, possibly more. In letters to and from Mom and Granny I get the impression he was a difficult man to live with but he was the love of her life."
