Robert Shaw of Glasgow (GenesReunited) says:
John Shaw and Mary Inglis produced a John Shaw of Larbert in 1836 out o f wedlock. John Shaw senior married Margaret Clelland. When she died he ma rried an Edith Stainforth.
At the time of marriage his occupation was Moulder, and he lived at 2 5 Grove Street in Glasgow. Witness to the wedding was a Richard Inglis. A t the birth of John 1861 he lived at 25 Grove Street. Lived at 18 Grove S treet, Glasgow at 1861 census. Lived at 25 Grove Street, Glasgow at 187 1 census. Lived at 79 Grove Street, Glasgow at 1881 and 1891 census. At t he birth of Peter 1874 he lived at 79 Grove Street Glasgow. Died at 79 Gr ove Street Glasgow Please consider my tree as a work in progress. Anythin g above my John Shaw born 1835 is speculation and questionable. The reaso n I have added these ancestors to my tree is in the hope someone within t he Genes Reunited community has information about my John. To explain r e my John Shaw born 1835 in Larbert, close to Kilsyth. There is no recor d of his birth or his parent's marriage. I think he may have been born ou t of wedlock. I have in mind 2 possibilities for his father. 1. This on e came to my notice recently. A John Shaw married Mary Laing. Some of the ir children are known to have stayed in Milton, Glasgow. There are, I thi nk, 4 grandchildren with the name Mary Laing Shaw. My John Shaw had a dau ghter Mary Lang Shaw. Spelling may not be significant. He lived in Grov e Street, Milton, Glasgow. The problem with this is my John's father's oc cupation was a Carter. John Shaw (Mary Laing) was not a Carter although m aybe he was at one time? He also had a previous son called John, born 182 6 - so would he have a second son called John to another woman? 2. This w as the one I'd been concentrating on until recently. A John Shaw Born 181 0 is the son of Charles Shaw and Janet Bankier. He lived in Kelvin Street , round the corner from Grove Street. His first wife Margaret died at 1 8 Grove Street in 1868. Unfortunately his occupation is not a Carter. M y John lived at many addresses in Grove Street and lived at no 18 in 186 1 census. He also lived at no 25 in 1871 census. The mother of his wife A nn Cowie was a Mary Bankier. My John's death certificate gives his mother 's name as Mary Ferrier. I think her actual name may be Mary Inglis who m arried an Alexander Ferrier after my John was born. Mary and Alexander Fe rrier were recorded in 1851 census at 25 Grove Street visiting friends . A Richard Inglis was known to have lived in Grove Street and he was a w itness to My John's marriage. Incidentally, both my candidates in the tre e are connected and therfore have a common ancestor. It is also possibl e that their families were known to each other in Milton.
