on his marriage cert. he gave his fathers name as william ballantyne [occ upationgrocer]and his mother as alison ballantyne ,i first thought perhap s they were cousins but could find no record of his birth to back this u p and there is no wil iam ballantyne in any census.from the census info h e was born at loanhead lasswade.appears to have been raised by his olde r brother william hunter after his mother alison died in 1863[ he would h ave been about 13 years old].he is listed in1861 census age 10 he is als o listed on1871 census as aboarder with wlliam and his wife helen and tw o kids.he is also listed on 1851 census but incorrectly as a daughter o f one month.william and his sister mary ballantyne are also listed...in t he 1861 census mary has changed her name to ruthford [i think this was me ant to be rutherford.so between 1871 and 1874 james came to glasgow and h ere he married ann dow murray in 1874 there address on m. cert is 10 howa rd street glasgow. the following adressess are from kids b. certs.1875 3 5 dunn street.1877 returns to lasswade. 1879 budhill street shettleston.d id't stay long in the east .1881east.??? street shettleston .1885 45 gra y street shettleston 1890 budhill street 1893budhill street 1897 still a t budhill street. there are gaps in the years between some of the births, according to info from jean adair there were two girls born both named an nie who died as infants.william married 1898 budhill st. james married i n 1899 address budhill street.1901 census finds the family except james a nd william at 92 carntyne street.1904 margaret marries 2 william street s hettleston .1906 helen marries 3 morries place tollcross.next marriage wa s john in 1910 he married from loch green cottage which has various addre sses thro. the years bargeddie ..easterhouse .. gartcosh.. i believe th e cottage to have beensituated on the road between easterhouse and drumpe llier loch .all other events i have found give this address up till james 's death in 1915 .the remaining family stayed here at least untl 1925whe n robert married from here, they were still here in 1931 when williiam' s son william hunter ballantyne junior marries jane mcdonald and gives th is address .james's occupations are endless including...labourer..coal de aler and contractor..foundry warehouseman...fruit merchant..engineers sto rekeeper..foundry labourer..brickwork labourer..papermill worker..fruiter er..this one intrigues me french polisher ,foreman[ appears on helens m . cert. ]lochgreen cottage first appears on paperwork in 1910 on son john 's m.cert. so i reckon they moved to the cottage between 1906 and 1910 ba llantynes were still here in 1931 when james's grandson gave this addres s at his marriage
