Many thanks for replying.
I think it's fair to say we do not have the same David Gourlays in our tr ees.
However you gave me some very interesting information and maybe we can ex plore this a little. You said David's parents were William and Margaret G ourlay, married 1802 in St Ninians.
My David's father was John Gourlay, born c1824 in St Ninians.
John(1824)'s parents were John Gourlay (c1801) and Jean Sinclair, marrie d in 1823 in St Ninians. I can't find any birth records for them but th e 1861 Census (by this time they were in the Gorbals in Glasgow) indicate s they were from Stirlingshire. I know that they were members of the Reli ef Church and it seems they didn't keep records in the way the Church o f Scotland did. I've been in touch with Stirling Council as they have wha t Relief Church records there were, but although they said they would che ck things out, I haven't heard anything else from them.
John(1801)'s parents were John Gourlay and Euphemia Watt. I obtained thi s information from John(1801)'s death certificate and have no other infor mation available, but the assumption is they were connected with Stirling shire.
A newly found second cousin and I have been trying to discover more abou t this part of the family, but without much success. So if you think yo u might have more information, we would be very interested! I have no ide a how many Gourlays there were in St Ninians in the early 1800s but I fee l it's worth checking out!

Yes, I've seen that one. The dates seems good, but I'm not sure if Isabe l and Euphemia are the same person. Not sure enough to put them on my tre e! I know many names were considered interchangable, but I'm not sure abo ut Isabel and Euphemia! They don't seem very alike!
Anyway, if you ever do get a lead, let me know, and I'll do likewise!
