Hi John,
Thanks for your reply. I have only recently started research on my husban d’s family. The example of Daniel Ralston and ‘Maggie’ Britton (as she wa s known) was one I’d been looking for and found on your site but I didn’ t realise that Scotlandspeople was the official site for certificates etc . I had signed up with them but there seems to be so many sites that yo u pay as you go I have been reserved about paying before I figure out exa ctly what is offered.
Just for your information J Janet Graham Ralston (called ‘Jennie’) left S cotland in 1907 (aged one), with her mother Maggie Britton bound for Sydn ey. I know that her father, Daniel Ralston, also came to Australia but se ems he travelled on a different ship for some reason. I haven’t worked ou t the details about his travel yet but I know he came because my father-i n-law (now 83) was born in their house and lived with his grandparents an d his parents until he married. His mother was Janet G Ralston and was a n only child.
I’ll have to continue working back from Daniel Ralston and Margaret Ros s Britton now.
