James Robbins was taxed on 100 acres of ground thereafter as evidenced by the 1799 and 1803 tax lists of Capt. Reddings Dist. and again in 1804 when the district became Capt. Hammer's. James Robbins was also taxed for 1 white pole in 1799; 2 in 1803 but none in 1804. ["1799 Tax List," THE GEN. JOURNAL by the RANDOLPH CO. GEN. SOC., vol. So far the only documented child of James Robbins Sr. I am aware of is William Robbins. Phebe Frazier named Wm. Robbins "son of James" as the father of her base born child in January court 1793; charge was denied by William Robbins in the May term, 1793. William married 15 Nov 1804 Mary Izell; the bondsman was Jonathan Rollins. William's poll is taxed separately in the 1799 list, but because his name is not present in the 1803 list one may suspect he is one of the two polls assessed James Robbins in 1803. [Randolph Co., NC, Bastardy Bonds, THE GEN. JOURNAL by the RANDOLPH CO. GEN. SOC., vol. XVII #1 (Winter 1993), p. 38; "Brides Index," THE GEN. JOURNAL by the RANDOPLH CO. GEN. SOC., vol. 5 #1 (Winter 1981), p. 26.]

The above mentioned Jonathan Rollins married a Martha Robbins on 17 Dec 1800; the bondsman was Abner Barker. Undocumented genealogies place Martha Robbins Rollins as a daughter of James Robbins. It seems reasonable but more evidence is desirable. ["Brides Index," THE GEN. JOURNAL by the RANDOPLH CO. GEN. SOC., vol. VI #2 (Spring 1982), p. 26.]

The Bell Co., KY, history mentioned earlier includes the claim of Rev. W.T. Robbins that his ancestor Jonathan Robbins was another son of James Robbins. Jonathan Robbins married Mary Masegee on 23 Aug 1804; bondsman was Joshua Wright. (Rev. W.T. Robbins believed her name was Masengale.) Jonathan could be the other poll in James's 1803 tax assessment. North Carolina made 50 the maximum age for poll tax in 1801, therefore if James was born c1737, he would not have been subject to that tax in 1803. Thus this "son" would be at least 21 in 1803, but under 21 in 1799 before the upper limit was set when James was only assessed 1 poll - his own. A birth date between 1779 and 1782 is consistent with a male age 16-26 in 1800 census but is a little older that Rev. Robbins's 1785 estimation of Jonathan's birth. The difference however is not fatal to the proposition that he was Jonathan Robbins. So I wish I knew where Rev. Robbins got his information - might it be a source that could answer more questions???? ["Brides Index," THE GEN. JOURNAL by the RANDOPLH CO. GEN. SOC., vol. V #2 (Spring 1981), p. 68.]
