Thomas Countway
On Wednesday, March 8th, there passed away to his eternal rest, Thomas
Countway, Chester Basin, at the advanced age of 87 years. Deceased had
been in failing health for some time, but it was only a few days ago
that his passing was looked for.
He was a life long member of the Anglican Church.
Mr Countway is survived by his widow, five daughters and five sons: Mrs
Hattie Ruby, Boston, Mass.; Mrs St. Clair Bachman, West Somerville,
Mass.; Mrs Emma Payne, Mrs Kitty Freda, R.N., of Winchester, Mass.; Mrs
Allister Lantz, Mahone Bay; Renford, of Medford, Mass.; Selwyn of
Chester Grant; Harold, Fred and Murray of Chester Basin. There are also
sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A remarkable
feature is that all his children are living except one daughter,
Claudia, who died several years ago.
The funeral serviices were conducted by the Rector, Rev.
Berriman-Rutter.
Murray James Countway, 74, Chester Basin, died yesterday in Camp Hill Hospital. He was the son of the late Mr and Mrs Thomas Countway, Chester Basin. Surviving are his wife Blanche; six daughters, Dorothy (Mrs Arthur Eddy) in Ohio; Marion (Mrs James Rafuse), Chester Basin; Mabel (Mrs Jerome Siefert) in Manitoba; Carol (Mrs Carman Rafuse), and Kitty (Mrs John Armstrong), both of Upper Vaughn, Hants County: Claudette (Mrs Ruben Heisler Jr), Chester Basin; two sons, Floyd, West Dover; and James, Chester Basin; three sisters, Mrs Kitty Crooks, Marriott's Cove; Mrs Emma Payne in Massachusetts; Mrs Florence Backman in Massachusetts; two brothers, Fred and Harold, Chester Basin. The body is at the Davis Funeral Home in Chester. Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:30 pm in the United Baptist Church, Chester Basin, Rev M A Gibson officiating.
