Adoptive Parent
A Summary Conclusion has been created for this fact/event.
Eleanor Fitzpatrick was probably adopted by Charles Fitzpatrick and Anna Bender when Eleanor's mother died soon after giving birth to Eleanor. In many records, such as one of Eleanor's obituaries, her death certificate, and the 1930 U.S. Census, Charles and Anna are listed as her parents without any mention of her adoption. However, she openly discussed her adoption with the researcher, her Grandson, during a 2007 discussion. During that discussion Eleanor described the adoption by saying they "took her in". She also said that her biological father, Harry Williamson, and her adoptive father, Charles FItzpatrick, worked together, that the two couples were friends, and that Anna was Eleanor's Godmother.
While Eleanor was never forthcoming about her adoption, during the interview she openly discussed it, shared pictures of her family, and discussed her two biological siblings. Therefore it is highly likely she was adopted by Charles and Anna Fitzpatrick and that Harry and Theresa Williamson are her biological parents. Further research, such as obtaining her birth certificate, baptismal record, and perhaps even finding legal documentation of her adoption, would conclusively prove this.
Please refer to the Proof for the Adoptive Parent of Eleanor Ann Fitzpatrick for a detailed analysis.

This version of Eleanor's obituary documents that Charled Fitzpatrick and Anna Bender adopted Eleanor Bongiovi. While this directly states the fact, the source of the information was likely Eleanor telling one of her Children. Therefore this does not contrinute more to the conclusion than the 2007 Interview listed below.
• 1930 U.S. Census Entry for Charles and Anna Fitzpatrick and Family[7] asserts that Charles Fitzpatrick is the head of the household and lives with his wife, Anna Fitzpatrick, a daughter Josephine, a son Charles, and daughter Eleanor. This assertion is associated with 4 other subject(s): Fitzpatrick, Charles; and Bender, Anna; and Scherne, Josephine; and Fitzpatrick Jr., Charles. A review of this assertion states:

Eleanor's death certificate directly states her date of birth and her age. Her age on the death certificate matches the age calculated between her reported birth and death dates (90 years, 6 months, and 1 day). While this cannot be considered a primary source for her birth, it is generally supported by her age in the 1930 Census.
• Eleanor Bongiovi's Obituary from the Virginia Gazette[4] asserts that Eleanor was 90 years old when she died. No other subjects are associated with this assertion. A review of this assertion states:
If Eleanor was 90 years old when she died, she would have been born between 15 Jul 1924 and 14 Jul 1925. Therefore this obituary supports her reported birthdate of 13 Jan 1925. However, the source of information was probably the same or someone with similar knowledge as the death certificate, so this source does not add significantly to the body of evidence.

The 1930 U.S. Census reports that Eleanor was 5 years old on 1 April 1930. This supports a birthdate between 02 Apr 1924 and 01 Apr 1925. Whild this does not prove the claim that she was born on 13 Jan 1925, it does provide proof that she was born about this time in a source written much closer to the time of birth.

Birth
Genealogical Proof Reportfor the Birth of Eleanor Ann Fitzpatrick
Prepared by Rob Bongiovi
Summary of Findings
Eleanor Fitzpatrick Bongiovi was likely born on 13 Jan 1925. This is documented in her death certificate, which is probably correct. It is supported by her entry in the 1930 U.S. Census where her age supports a late 1924 or early 1925 birthdate. A copy of her birth certificate would provide conclusive proof.
Itemized Research Findings
4 assertions from 4 sources were considered in evaluating this claim.
The Eleanor Bongiovi Death Certificate[1] asserts that Eleanor was born 13 Jan 1925 and was 90 years old.
The source reviewed was an Original Record. The information is believed to be Secondary (meaning the person providing the information received that information second hand, from another person or work). The evidence supporting the claim is considered Direct (meaning it adequate to answer the question directly).
Eleanor's death certificate directly states her date of birth and her age. Her age on the death certificate matches the age calculated between her reported birth and death dates (90 years, 6 months, and 1 day). While this cannot be considered a primary source for her birth, it is generally supported by her age in the 1930 Census.
The Eleanor Bongiovi's Obituary from the Virginia Gazette[2] asserts that Eleanor was 90 years old when she died.
The source reviewed was an Original Record. It is indeterminable whether the information being considered is Primary or Secondary information. The evidence supporting the claim is considered Indirect (meaning the evidence is implied or circumstantial).
The Eleanor Bongiovi Funeral Card[3] asserts that Eleanor was born 13 Jan 1925.
The source reviewed was an Original Record. It is indeterminable whether the information being considered is Primary or Secondary information. The evidence supporting the claim is considered Direct.
The funeral card directly states her birth date. While this cannot be considered a primary source for her birth, it is generally supported by her age in the 1930 Census. However, the source of information was probably the same or someone with similar knowledge as the death certificate, so this source does not add significantly to the body of evidence.
The 1930 U.S. Census Entry for Charles and Anna Fitzpatrick and Family[4] asserts that Eleanor Fitzpatrick was a 5 year old single white female.
The source reviewed was an Original Record. It is indeterminable whether the information being considered is Primary or Secondary information. The evidence supporting the claim is considered Indirect.
