Obituary of Matthew Jackson RedmanMatthew Jackson "Jack" Redman NORTON, Va. Mr. Matthew Jackson "Jack" Redman, age 87, of the Ramsey section of Norton, Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 30, 2011, at his home. He was born on May 17, 1923, in Norton, Va. and lived nearly all of his life in Norton.
Jack had worked at a local retail clothing store earlier in life, and retired several years ago from Daniels Plumbing and Heating. He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, having served in the Philippines for 16 months as a medic. He was wounded while he served in the Pacific Ocean Theatre. He was a longtime devoted member of the Norton Church of God, where he served as a trustee. Those who knew Jack knew he was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
He was a son of the late James Benson "Belt" Redman and Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Redman and was also preceded in death by four sisters, Goldie Sutherland, Edith Lawson, Inez Cress and Annie Redman and four brothers, William Vencil, Paul Redman, Eugene Redman and Alfred Redman.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 61 years, Nancy Graybeal Redman, Norton; two daughters, Sarah "Susie" Redman, Norton and Dana Carty and husband, Verlin, Wise, Va.; three sons, Preston Reman and wife, Susie, Lebanon, Va., Mark Redman and wife, Lynn, Bristol Virginia and Matthew "Matt" Redman and wife, Becky of Norton; seven grandchildren, Keith Carty, Benson Redman, Cruz Redman, David Carty, Sarah Redman, Hannah Carty and Lilly Redman; four great-grandchildren, Trey Carty, Trent Carty, Ethan Carty and Arabella Carty; two very special friends, Milford and Loretta Williams, of Wise, Va. and a host of other relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Norton Church of God on Friday, April 1, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Friday April 1, 2011, at 8 p.m., with Pastor Freddie Powers, officiating. Interment will be on Saturday March 2, 2011, at 12 p.m.,at Laurel Grove Cemetery, with the funeral procession leaving the church at 11:45 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to, The Norton Church of God, P.O.
