Donald Corbly West

Don met Wilma McCarter at a square dance in Berkeley. They were married in July of 1951, setting in motion a marriage that lasted 59 years. His family lovingly remembers Don as an always gentle, deeply loyal man of his word: an everywhere-he-went whistler, an expert carpenter and landscaper, and a formidable opponent at Hearts. Wilma survives him, living in Oakland. Other survivors include his brother Harrison West of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughters Laura West of San Francisco and Becky West of Oakland; and son Carter West of Somerville, Massachusetts.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm at Mira Vista United Church of Christ, housed in the building of Christ Lutheran Church, 780 Ashbury Ave., El Cerrito.
