Obituary of Elena (Copenhaver) Watson

Mrs. Elena Copenhaver Watson, 90, of 9 River Pine Drive, died Monday at a Rome hospital.

Mrs. Watson was born in Smyth County, Va., on Aug. 6, 1903, daughter of the late William Lilburn Copenhaver and Mollie Cornett Copenhaver. She graduated from Marion Junior College, Marion, Va. with a degree in secondary education. She received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and her master of arts degree from Columbia University, New York.

She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, a member of St. Hilda's Altar Gild, and a former member of the Chapel of the Cross. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority, the League of Women Voters, Shared Learning, the American Association of University Women, and the Society of Mayflower Descendants.

She was married to Dr. Robert Biggs Watson who preceded her in death, Nov. 25, 1931.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Kyle Watson Crowner, Sherman Oaks, Calif. and Sarah Watson Killion, Indianapolis, Ind.; a son, Robert Briggs Watson Jr., Rome; four grandsons; two granddaughters; a niece.

Burial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ridge Springs, S.C.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Rome.
