Obituary of Monnie Huff Fitz Patrick

Monnie Huff Fitz Patrick of Charlottesville passed away on July 28, 2012, at Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge. She was born in Marion, Virginia, on August 31, 1931, to Isaac Henry and Margaret Wassum Huff. She was raised in Glade Spring, Virginia, and lived her adult life in the Chicago suburbs, Charlottesville, and Scottsdale, Arizona, before moving to Westminster-Canterbury with her husband in 2008.

Monnie graduated from Marion College in 1950 and the Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William and Mary in 1952. Throughout her life, Monnie was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was an excellent cook, an avid bridge player, a master at needlepoint, and she enjoyed gardening.

Monnie is survived by her husband of 60 years, James; her son David and his wife Kathleen of Farmington, Connecticut; daughter Margaret Fitzsimmons and her husband Mark of Alexandria; and five grandchildren, Meghan, Sarah, and Kevin FitzPatrick, and Cara and Jack Fitzsimmons. She is also survived by her brother Atwood J. Huff of Roanoke.

The family would like to express its deep appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff at Westminster-Canterbury, especially the nurses and aides on Health Care 2, and to Monnie's companions, Doris Dowell and Annie Berry. In addition, the family thanks Hospice of the Piedmont for its assistance during Monnie's last days. A private graveside service will be held at Monticello Memory Gardens, conducted by Rev. Katha Bollfrass, chaplain at Westminster-Canterbury. The family will receive friends at a reception to be held at Westminster-Canterbury at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster-Canterbury Foundation, 250 Pantops Mountain Road, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
