Roland George "Bob" Simer

Roland G. "Bob" Simer, 68, of Nampa, passed away Friday, July 7, 2000, at a Nampa hospital. Bob was born August 24, 1931, in Nampa to Andrew and Elvesta "Tootie" (George) Simer. He was raised in Nampa by his mother and stepfather Floyd R. Campbell and attended Nampa Eastside Elementary, Central Junior High and later graduated from Nampa High School in 1950. His high school football team was state champions in 1948, 1949, and 1950, and was one of the best in school history. He was a member of the Idaho High School Football Hall of Fame.
Bob joined the Idaho Air National Guard in 1950, and his unit was activated for service during the Korean War. He left the Air Force in 1953, and returned to Nampa where he married Evangeline "Vangie" Simer on August 1, 1954, and they were married for 45 years.
He was very active in his community and served as the co-leader of the 4-H Lone Star Riders Club for 20 years, a member of the American Legion and President of the Lone Star School PTA. He began working for King's Meat Packing starting in 1954, and stayed through all of the ownership changes until retiring from ConAgra in 1933.
Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding and teasing his grandchildren. He was a wonderful father, husband and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Vangie of Nampa; 2 daughters, Kathleen Coon and husband, Daren of Nampa, Laurie Brownell and husband, Jon of Sandpoint; and 1 son, Daniel Simer and wife, Robin of Caldwell. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Heather and Heidi Coon of Nampa, Cameron and Bailey Brownell of Sandpoint and Melody, Mitch and Melissa Simer of Caldwell. He is also survived by a sister; Pearl Ahnstead of Boise; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Bill and Jean Greenfield of Meridian. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, a brother and one nephew.
