Jane Giersch McCarter, 88, of Galax, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Twin County Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Tennessee to Warren B. and Minnie Houseman Giersch.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Van B. McCarter of Galax; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Van and Janet McCarter of Roanoke, Dr. Jeff and Audrey McCarter of Farmville and Robert and Pamela McCarter of Charlotte, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend Dena Isom.
A funeral was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Walt Simmerman officiating. Burial followed in Felts Memorial Cemetery.
