Josiah Cooke

The will of Josiah Cooke Sr. of Eastham, dated 22 September 1673, mentioned, among others, wife Elizabeth and natural son Josias Cooke, Josiah, the son, engaged in a "great Contest varianc and strife" with his sister Bethiah Cooke Harding and his half-sister Miriam Deane concerning the estate of Josiah Cook Sr., which controversy was resolved by an agreement reached in court at Barnstable 31 May 1687. Josiah recieved a grant of land in Truro in 1715.
The will of Josiah Cooke of Eastham, yeoman, dated 7 December 1727 and proved 30 August 1732, included bequests to the South Church of Chirst in Eastham; to the Rev. Samuel Osborn, pastor; to sons Josiah, Richard, Josua and Caleb Cooke; and to daughters Deborah Godfrey and Elizabeth Newcomb. Son Benjamin Cooke was named executor.
