Albert Wills Clark Sr.

Plant manager of Bassett Superior Lines, Albert W. Clark: Albert W. Clark is a vice-president of Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc., and plant manager of Bassett Superior Lines. Born in Ohio, he spent many summers here visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Clark, of Spring Valley, Va.
In 1935 he was graduated from National Business College, Roanoke. In May,1936, he went to work with Bassett Furniture Co. as a bookkeeper. From August,1942, to June, 1943, he was purchasing agent at Bassett Furniture Co.He served in the army in Word War II from June 1943, to June, 1946, including one year overseas. He was discharged as a staff sergeant.
After his military service Mr. Clark came back to Bassett, and he was named assistant plant manager and purchasing agent at Bassett Superior Lines.
It was in 1954 that he was named plant manager, succeeding L. C. Carter, who retired. Mr. Clark is married to the former Miss Edith Smith, of Bassett. The couple has two children. Miss Margaret Ruth Smith is a junior at American University, Washington, D.C. Wills Clark is 16 and a sophomore at John D. Bassett High School. Mr. Clark is a past president of a Men's Brotherhood group at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, and he sings in the church choir. He is a 32nd Degree Mason, Danver Consistory, and a past president of Bassett Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Clark was a member for five years of the Bassett Volunteer Fire Dept. and he is a past co-chairman of the Martinsville-Henry County United Fund Drive in this area. He is a trustee of the W.M. Bassett Community Center and of the Bassett Recreation Center. Last year he was co-chairman of a membership drive for the Bassett Kiwanis Club. In his free time Mr. Clark enjoys golf and genealogy as hobbies.
