John Smith

John Smith shared in the 22 April 1697 deivision of his father's estate and the 18 July 1700 division of his mother's estate. He also singed in 1706 as an heir of his father-in-law Stephen Snow.
John Smith of Chatham was appointed guardian of his son Deane Smith, aged about 18, on 19 October 1716, "some estate having fallen" to Dean by the "bequest and death of some of his relations."
The will of Miriam (Deane) Wing, widow of John Wing Jr. of Harwich, dated 24 May 1701 and proved 8 January 1702, gave all of her property to Deane Smith, "son of my Kinswoman Bethyah Smith of Monamoett." Settlement of the estate 14 January 1702 mentioned kinsman Dean Smith as son of John Smith of Manomoiett. Miriam (Deane) Wing was a sister of Susanna Dean Rogers Snow, mother of Bethiah.
Administration of the estate of John Smith, late of Chatham, was granted to his son Samuel Smith of Chatham on 25 February 1717. Guardians were appointed for John's minor children on 11 July 1722, as follows: Samuel Stuward of Chatham, yeoman, for Mary Smith; Richard Knowles of Chatham for John Smith; Thoams Atkins of Chatam, yeoman for Stephen Smith; Dean Smith of Chatham, yeoman, for Daivd Smith; and Samuel Smith of Chatham, yeoman,f or Seth Smith.
Completion of the settlement of the estate on 31 July 1734 discolsed that John Smith was survived by six sons; Samuel, Dean, John, Stephen, David, and Seth; and three daughters; Mercy, Mary and Bethiah. Dean had since died, leaving four children: Sons Dean, Herman, and Asaph, and daughter Meriam. Widow Bethiah was then alive.
