In 1805, John and Nancy, along with other families, made the journey across the mountains and through eastern Ohio by wagon and team. A cart carried all the household possessions, and at night they camped out by the roadside. They secured land in then Pickway Co.) Ohio and improved a farm. They built a log cabin situated just west of Adelphi, Ohio in a section where deer, bear and other wild animals were found.
