Francis Brown
(1610 - 1668)
Francis Brown was born in England and came to America where in 1636 he married Mary Edwards. Francis was on the expedition party to find a new settlement, and stayed behind in what would be New Haven to get the site ready for settlement. In New Haven, once it was settled he ran the ferry and farmed.

Joshua Atwater, Francis Brown, John Beecher, Robert Pigg and Thomas Hogg were of the seven. We may imagine they spent their time hewing, cleaving and sawing, hunting, trapping and collecting by bartering with the natives beaver and other furs for the European market.Civil

Francis proposes a ferry boat: Francis Browne moved if he may have a little house or shade att the water side to worke in and competent allowance for his paines, and some land in the Oyster-shell field to plant, he will keep a ferry boate to carry people over the East River, and thatt he will attend itt every day from the rising of the sun to the going downe of the same in an ordenary course till 12 moneths be expired, exceptinge Saboth dayes and other times of solemne publique word of God.Burial
