Individual Details

Catherine "/Caty/" Bowen

(Abt 1824 - )

Catherine was a widow of Richard Carver prior to her relationship with Daniel.

Caty died on a farm which was later owned by Daniel Lott's son, James Seward Lott, in Coffee County, Georgia. She was buried in some family cemetery somewhere near Sand Hill Church Cemetery.

At the time of her death, Daniel Lott, the father of her younger children: Richard, Sarah, Solomon, Jackson & Frances, had two of his slaves, old Lewis & young Lewis take carts and one hauled the body of Caty/ Catherine and in the other Daniel Lott carried the five children to the place of burial. The child Jackson was old enough to walk at that time. After the burial, Daniel Lott went back by the farm house where Caty Carver and the children had lived & where she had died.

Here, he sent the two older children into the house where they had lived to gather up what clothing they had, then taking the children to his home, called to wife, Fannie Gaskins and told her they were his children and were to be taken into the family and be treated exactly the same as his other [legitimate] children. Albert Lott also stated that he had heard his grandmother, Fannie, say that her David [Albert's father] and Frances [child of Caty] that is was hard to tell which she loved the best, her own, or the other child. And that Frances was such a good & agreeable child while her David was a hard boy to manage.
