Individual Details

Susan Elizabeth Murphy

(1750 - 1829)

Elizabeth applied for administration of his estate on April 12, 1804(McIntosh Co.). I believe that this is the Leonard Sr. that Huxford was referring to and that he came to McIntoshCo., GA, with his son Leonard during the RevolutionaryWar. Upon thedeath of the father the son became Leonard Sr. - this would be theLeonard Sr. who died in McIntosh Co., GA, in 1822 and was probably b.abt. 1750. His son, Leonard Jr., born 1788, died in Irwin Co., GA, in1845. This opinion is further strengthened by the fact that Leonardreportedly did notbring a wife with him to Georgia but married a Dutchwoman after his arrival.

(f/g) Elizabeth Young

Birth: 1751, USA

Death: 1829

Jefferson County

Georgia, USA

Elizabeth Young's maiden name is not known to me at this time. Her birth and death date given here are approximate, considering her marriage date and last census recorded.

The following information came from the Jacob Young family bible, pictured on this memorial page.

Jacob Young was born 1749 in South Carolina.

Elizabeth married Jacob Young on December 23, 1771. They had five children:

- George b. 1775

- Mary C. b. June 10 1778

- Nancy b. 1782

- Margaret b. 1790

- Jacob b. 1792

---------------------------

If Elizabeth lived into the early 1800's, we can assume she was residing with her husband, Jacob, through the following time frame.

The subsequent information comes from various data records for Jacob: military, land draws, federal census, etc.

Elizabeth's husband served in the Revolutionary War from 1781-1783 in the Georgia Militia, so they were already living in the state by 1781. He received 150 acres in Burke County, Georgia in 1785 as payment for his service. Jacob Young, Sr. is listed in the 1820 and 1830 census records for Jefferson County, Georgia. (Jefferson was formed from Burke.) In the 1820 census, a woman matching the age of Elizabeth is present, but there is no woman matching her age in the 1830 census. We may assume that she has passed before this date.

If you have any information to add, please send me an edit, Thanks!
