William Marion Ray
(22 Jun 1834 - )
A biography published in the Danville, Ill., Evening Commercial on 26 Aug 1893 and reprinted in Vermilion County, Ill., Pioneers: II said: "Wm. Ray, the subject of this sketch, was one of the useful men of his (Catlin) township, and a prominent citizen of the county. He held several offices of trust and considering his delicate condition, did a good deal of laborious work. He was for many years an active member of the Catlin fair association, and its success in former years was largely due to his energy and enthusiasm in the work. He came to Vermilion county when he was about eight years old and continued to reside at Catlin until he moved to Kansas in 1883, settling near Wilsey. He he owns a good farm, well improved and stocked, and is living a happy and contended life, surrounded by all his children, but one deceased. Mr. Ray is a thoroughbred republican and a good old fashioned Methodist in religion. Mrs. Ray is still living and enjoying good health. She is a good wife and mother and satisfied with her life's work. . . . "
