From the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat: Dec 4 2003JAAP - Walter F. “Wally,” 65, Redbird, Portage Township, died Dec. 3, 2003, at home. Born April 12, 1938, in Canonsburg, son of the late Robert and Amelia (Hochkraut) Jaap. Survived by loving wife of 43 years, Illona (Belinda) Jaap; and these children: Robert, married to former Jennie Ferraro, Jacksonville, Fla.; Natalie, wife of Harry Prosser III, Cresson; Walter Jr., Portage; Michael, married to former Rebecca Ray, Cresson; Kimberly, wife of Michael Regan, Virginia; and Douglas, married to former Solitaire Sheppard, U.S. Army, Korea; also survived by 11 grandchildren. Brother of Mary Porter, Muse, Pa.; Robert Jaap and wife, Barbara, Buffalo, N.Y.; Peggy Price, Portage; Charles
Jaap and wife, Lois, Casselbery, Fla.; and Amelia “Susan’’ Harper, Davie, Fla. Former coal miner for Bethlehem Mines # 33 and #38. Former chainman for Fedorko Engineering. Former foundry worker for Ford Motor, Cleveland, Ohio; and last employed at Stager’s Store, Portage. Air Force veteran and member of Post 628, American Legion, Lilly, and Post 150, the AMVETS, Portage. Life member of Jamestown Rod & Gun Club. For a retirement hobby Wally became an avid woodworker and cabinetmaker. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mark A. Serenko Funeral Home, Portage.
Military funeral rite will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral
home. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Farren Street, Portage, the Rev. Frank Hodges officiating. Interment in Mount Union Cemetery.
