A memorial service for Betty L. McGoon will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Mary Mason officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. McGoon, 83, of Rochester, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2008) at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
Betty L. Hall was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Dubuque, Iowa, and graduated from Dubuque High School. She earned a degree in child development from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. She developed the Harriett Lane Child Life Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. On April 2, 1948, she married Dr. Dwight C. McGoon in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple lived in Baltimore. They later lived in Germany for two years and moved to Rochester in 1956. In her later years, she worked as a real-estate agent for K&K Realty in Rochester. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, PEO and Kappa Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed reading, animals and friendship.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Michael (Bonnie) of Rochester; three daughters, Susan (Brent) Coulter of Wheaton, Ill., Betsy (Gary) Lundberg of Plano, Texas, and Sarah (John) Bergstrom of Edina, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her spouse and a sister.
Visitation will be an hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.
The family prefers memorials to Dwight McGoon Mayo Medical School Scholarship Fund.
