Sometime after her father's death and before 1880 Louisa is adopted by Thomas G. and Barbara Summers. In various records the surname is Sumner, Summers, Sommers. Sometime before 1895 the family moves to South Dakota where Louisa is married. Barbara was born in December 1843 in Ohio and died on 9 October 1905 in South Dakota. Thomas was born in August 1843 in New York. He married widow Lucinda Lane in 1908 in South Dakota. He died 20 September 1918 and is buried in Minnehaha County, South Dakota.
