Belus Shepherd ABRAMS

On 17 Jan 1864 he married Fanny UNKNOWN, widow of Leland BROWN in Clayton Center, Crawford Co, WS. He was residing in Vernon Co, WS.
The 1870 Census has him living in Sterling (Post Office West Prairie), Vernon Co, WS with his wife Fanny and is a farmer.
In the 1880 Census he is living in Boscobel, Grant Co, WS with his wife Fanny.
In Apr 1892, he signed a general affidavit for his step-son's (Marvin L. Brown) civil war pension in which he indicates he is living in Wheatville, Crawford Co, WS.
On 29 Nov 1897 he signed an affidavit for his step-son's (Marvin L. Brown) civil war pension in which he indicates he is living in Clayton, Crawford Co, WS.
On 16 Feb 1898 he was granted a divorce from Fanny F. in the court of George Clemendson after all allegations in said complaint were fully and fairly established.
On 6 Jun 1901 his divorced wife Fanny F. filed a document in the Leland Brown Pension Case and stated that Belus S. Abrams died on 1 April 1900 in Scott, Crawford Co, WS.
From "History of Vernon County" comes this quote: "Belus Shepherd Abrams settled on his present farm in the spring of 1870. He was born in Cayuga Co., N. Y., June 5, 1821. He remained there until eighteen years of age, when he removed to Wayne county, in his native State, and engaged in farming, remaining, there until 1856, when he came west to Wisconsin, and entered land in town 12 north, of range 5 west, now in the town of Sterling. Mr. Abrams now owns 200 acres of land, 100 of which are fairly improved, and the other half is in pasture and timber land. He was married, in 1863, to Fannie, widowed wife of Leland Brown, who was a soldier in the late war, and died while in the service. Of late years, Mr. Abrams has rented his land, and a portion of the time has made his home at Boscobel, Grant Co., Wis. Before marriage he was unsettled, and spent a large portion of his time traveling."

In affidavits filed in the Leland Brown Pension Case, it indicates Fanny F. Brown and B. S. Abrams were married by Justice of the Peace A. P. McMillin in Clayton, Crawford County, Wisconsin. Marriage was witnessed by David and Mary Mook.
