From Families of Early Milford, Connecticut: " John Burwell came from Hemel Hampstead, co. Herts, England. E.R. Lambert went there in 1838 on Burwell business (Lambert ms in Yale). He was first at Roxbury, Mass., then Wethersfield, Conn., and then to Milford as a free planter in 1639. He had lot #44 consisting of 2 acres and 20 rods. He may have been married three times . He married/1 Minsden Chapel, co Herts 1622 Hester or Esther Winchester. He married/2 Minsden Chapel co. Herts 24 June 1635 Alice Heath who died 19 December 1666 in Milford. She married/2 as first wife 12 September 1650 Joseph Peck. Joseph Peck married/2 Mary Richards dau of Thomas of Waterbury, Conn. 1968 atlas shows no Minsden Chapel, but it could have been a parish."
From the records of Nareen Lake on findagrave.com: "John Burwell came with his wife, my ancestor, ALICE HEATH, to America in 1637 with the Eaton-Davenport-Prudden party and was an original planter of Wepawaug (Milford). He was the owner of "Burwell Farms" which stayed in the family for many years. Alice Heath, whom he married on June 24, 1635, was his third wife death, she married my ancestor, Joseph Peck. Known children of John & Alice (Heath) Burwell: Samuel Burwell (died in infancy), Zachariah Burwell, Samuel Burwell, Ephraim Burwell, Nathan Burwell, Elizabeth Burwell."

Burial

From descendant Nareen Lake: "The picture [on findagrave.com] is of a stone, along with many others, that was placed on the bridge over the Wepewaug River in Milford. It is not a tombstone. John Burwell was buried in "Rev. Peter Prudden's garden" which was originally part of Rev. Prudden's homelot but eventually became part of the Milford Cemetery. Unfortunately, there is not a single stone left from Rev. Prudden's garden, so this pictured memorial stone is the only thing left."
