DEATH
OF CONCORDIA'S MOST BELOVED
YOUNG LADIES - MISS VERA HOLLIS
-----------
Only once in a while an event occurs that is of so distressing anature as to sadden a whole community with sincerest grief, and whenthese do occur, they are not easily forgotten. Such is the feelingwith which we record the death of Vera Hollis, one of the brightestand sweetest girls it has been our fortune to know. One week agotoday she was in apparently as good health and spirits as usual, buther illness and death overcame her rapidly. Thursday night she wastaken violently ill with peritonitis. On Sunday night she was removedto the hospital, where an operation was performed, which, however, hadbeen delayed too long to save her. Nearly all of the physicians inthe city put their best skill and knowledge to the case, but itavailed nothing. Her death occurred at eleven-thirty o'clock, Tuesdaynight, with one member of the family at her bedside, her brotherCharles, who has scarcely left her side during her illness.
Vera Hollis was born in Cloud county, August 17th, 1886, and died atConcordia, Kansas, Feb. 25, 1908, at the age of twenty-two years, seven months, and eight days. For the past two years, she has beenemployed at the central office, and was well beloved by all of herassociates there.
