"According to both Lee and Whittemore, she was born in 1662 at Newark, New Jersey, but this is unlikely since the settlers from Connecticut did not arrive until 1666 at the earliest. Either her birth year or birth place are given incorrectly in these sources. In his will of 17 February 1689, her father, John Brown, mentions daughter Elizabeth Freeman."
